ABI NSW is a Sydney and Wollongong based, non-government organisation providing evidence-based intervention programs to children with autism and their families. Our unique model of intervention uses a contemporary approach to implement Applied Behaviour Analysis to improve the quality of life of the child and the family unit. We use a family centred model to build on family’s strengths. At ABI NSW we are a transdisciplinary team of Special Educators, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Child and Family Counsellor and Provisionally Registered Psychologists. ABI NSW programs employ the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) in order to decrease challenging behaviour and increase appropriate behaviours. ABI NSW provides parents/caregivers and professionals with a "tool belt of strategies" that they can use to independently and successfully manage challenging behaviour and teach new, appropriate skills to children with autism.
Essential:
Applicants must have:
• A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Psychology, Speech Pathology or Occupational Therapy.
• Experience in the education and intervention of young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders
• A current drivers licence and own car
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with people from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds
• Excellent self motivation and proven autonomous working skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills including highly quality report writing skills
• Must be willing to work in the Sydney Metropolitan area to complete initial training
Desirable: (Essential for Senior Level Entry)
• A sound knowledge in the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and experience in implementing these principles with individuals
• Demonstrated experience in working effectively with children who present with challenging behaviour and complex needs
• Demonstrated experience in working effectively with families with complex needs including mental health issues, separated or blended families and multiple children with complex needs.
