Tommasina Bellomo - Senior Psychologist

Tommasina Bellomo is a Senior Psychologist and Behaviour Support Educator with ABI. She holds a Master of Psychology (Educational & Developmental) from the University of Western Sydney, a Graduate Diploma in Psychological Practice from the College of Psychological Practice, a Graduate Diploma in Science (Psychology) and a Bachelor of Economics (Social Science) from Sydney University. She was registered as a Psychologist in 2003 and recently joined ABI in August 2011. Tommasina is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society.
 
Tommasina began working with children with a range of disabilities in 1998 supporting their participation in recreational activities during school holidays. In 2000 she worked as an Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) Therapist for CARD (Centre of Autism and Related Disorders) and from 2001-2004 she worked for the Early Autism Project, progressing to a Supervisor position.

From 2003-2006 Tommasina worked as a Social Educator for Seton Villa, who provides group home accommodation for women with a range of disabilities. In this role she was responsible for planning activities and developing individual programs to improve their quality of life and promote their integration in to the community.

Tommasina worked for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance from 2006 to 2011 as a Psychologist providing services to individuals diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. She also worked as a Transition to School Co-ordinator supporting the transition into kindergarten for children with a diagnosis of Global Developmental Delay, Fragile X, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy.

Tommasina’s current role as Senior Psychologist and Behaviour Support Educator with ABI allows her to cultivate her special interest in supporting individuals with a disability improve their quality of life, resilience and become an inclusive member of their community. Tommasina has a strong commitment to providing comprehensive assessments and translating assessment findings into practical, meaningful & effective interventions with families from a broad range of linguistic, cultural & socio-econiomic backgrounds. Tommasina's interventions include: developing skills for a child's transition to school to promote active participation in all aspects of the curriculum; developing social skills and more adaptive skills to enable inclusion in to the school community and the general community; strengthening resilience and reducing anxiety or challenging behaviours that limit access to medical treatment or community access (e.g. shopping centres); developing daily living skills in order to increase a child's independence and participation in daily activities and routines within the home environment; and supporting the successful implementation of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems across multiple environments.
